Two weeks ago, I attended the Haste and Hustle conference, Canada’s most anticipated marketing event, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
This was a 2-day event, packed with incredible keynote speakers and other marketing crawl activities that were meant to inspire, motivate, teach and most importantly allow you network with outstanding attendees (and keynote speakers) while showcasing Niagara as an ideal place to do business.
I was actually travelling to Toronto from Mexico (where I live) to apply for my Mexican residency and take care of some business and personal matters, so it was an incredible surprise to see that this was held at the same time as I was there. I did everything I could to make this happen for myself and I decided to invest in a VIP ticket. I am so happy I did, it included the VIP Gala Invitation held at the end of Day 1 of the conference and that was important to me, because I really wanted to network and meet new people. I LOVE connecting with people and learning their life story!
Originally, this event was going to be held at White Oaks, however as things always come up, the event got moved to Bethany Community Church in St Catharines. This incredible event was featured on local and international news, so there were a lot of expectations and pressure for it to deliver. It did not disappoint, in fact the intimate feeling of it brought people closer together.
This year’s keynote speakers as presented in the agenda were:
Thursday February 9th
I was very excited about it and expressed my excitement through my hustle on social media. I was very heavily engaged in promoting this event, because I was very proud this is being held in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I felt I can help give more exposure while practicing my social media ads marketing. Win win!
Erin Bury of 88 CREATIVE covered the bot boom and what marketers need to know about chatbots and how to forecast this technology into their business. Chat bots are great to help move people through the purchase path and they allow for dynamic segmentation, lead generation and targeted content delivery.
Greg Murray of Pfizer Canada discussed the cause of creator-ship. These connectors move people forward, and creativity has never been more important in today’s times. Be creative or you will become extinct, as he says. He feels that we fall within five categories of creativeness and why the world needs “everyday” creators. The 5 categories are: artists > expression, designers > function, connectors > service, developers > curiosity, craftsmen > immersion
Giovanni Marsico is the founder of Archangel and his talk focused on how to run a purpose-driven entrepreneurship and philanthropy. As he highlights, mission-driven entrepreneurs are the modern day superheroes and as the world gets more digital, those who facilitate human connection will WIN the game.
“Find something you’re willing to die for and then go live for it.” – Naveen Jain
Alan Smithson CEO of METAVRSE discussed business applications for VR/AR, the new tech of marketing where we are shifting human communication. He also spoke about the Unlimited – Awesome Academy (UAA), which is an app-based social mentoring program that teaches kids 11-18 the fundamentals of living a successful life
Manjit Minhas of Dragons’ Den and her Minhas School of Beer Business Success, expressed her point of view on the principles and entrepreneurial values through her life story. Minhas attended a conference in Texas with the hopes of finding someone to make the spirits that she and her brother were looking for and found Max, the owner the largest family-owned distillery in America. She hustled and following him around and with her passion and youth, got him to agree in writing on a napkin to begin a fruitful business relationship. She also emphasizes the importance of mentors, both in your career and your personal life.
“There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs”
After her talk, the event organizers have announced the winners of their Hustle competition, and to my surprise, I was one of the winners AND the only woman representing! Very proud and very happy to be recognized, especially when I found out I would get an opportunity to meet Gary V face to face, but moreso because it’s important that more women are involved and push to be successful in this new ecosystem that is social media.
Second half of Day 1 included a Marketing Crawl, which was different based on the group. My group visited the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre and Pillitteri Estates Winery for an awesome wine education and tasting. I left with an amazing wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon which I savoured for my birthday a week later. Other winery visits included: Mike Weir Winery, Inniskillin.
This was followed by the VIP Event at Jackson-Triggs Winery, where we had the opportunity to mingle, enjoy a great hors d’oeuvres platter and yummy wine.
Friday Feb 10th

The much anticipated Gary Vaynerchuk discussed the practicality of running a business, the journey of entrepreneurship and doing it the right way and the old way. He also covered 30 minutes of Q&A and did wine tasting with Pillitteri winemaker, covering their Reserve Cabernet Franc, a Jackson-Triggs sparking wine and their famous ice wine. You can watch his keynote below:
His talk was followed by lunch, but to our surprise, the Elite Hustlers, aka the winners of the Hustling contest were invited backstage to hang out with Gary V. We patiently (and very excited, I might add) waited for the moment, but we found out later that he will not have time do meet and greet as initially promised.
You can’t really fuck with Mother Nature and he almost didn’t make it to the event due to snow storm, and he also had to rush back to New York, so eventhough we were promised some “hanging out” with him, it didn’t happen. Disappointing, but understandable and I managed to at least thank him for his time and get a selfie.
After Gary, Casey Neistat took the stage and talked about his personal journey, and how to be heard and stand out in the YouTube world.
“Spend your twenties thinking out what you want to do and your thirties actually doing it” – Casey Neistat
Marc Saltzman and his Tech It Out Talk covered today’s top tech trends for your business
I am happy to say that I met a lot of amazing people and I am very humbled to have been recognized for my social media work at the first ever Haste and Hustle event! From the bottom of my heart, I wanted to congratulate Shauna Arnott for a phenomenal inaugural event. It may not have been flawless, but was very inspiring and truly sets the tone for what it is possible to achieve. I am very excited and can’t wait for the next one.
